Watch history come to life! Experience the sights, sounds, and smells of a restored British army masonry fortification from the mid-Victorian era and learn about the history of the Halifax Citadel and the soldiers and soldiers’ families who called the fort home.

Expedition Citadel

An interactive 90-minute program that includes a guided site tour and a hunt for an ‘enemy spy’! Students will interact with interpreters portraying a variety of roles and positions during the program. Content varies for grade level; please specify Level 1 (Primary to Grade 3), Level 2 (Grades 4-6), or Level 3 (Grades 7-9). Booking in advance is required.

Citadel School Tour

A 60-minute guided tour for your group, led by a 78th Highlander, Royal Artillery gunner, or soldier’s wife. Suitable for all ages and grade levels. Booking in advance is required.

Self-Guided School Visit

Visit the Halifax Citadel at your own pace, with no enhanced programming or guide. Xplorer booklets are available for children ages 6-12 (please inquire at time of booking). Booking in advance is required.

Cost: Free

Please note that the free public tour of the Halifax Citadel is not available to school groups on self-guided visits.
